Former Durham Teacher Accused Of Letting Student Sleep In Her Bed

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — A former Durham middle school teacher is accused of having a sleepover with one of her students.

Investigators say Janet Briggs allowed a 14-year-old boy to sleep in her bed. She is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Briggs resigned from Chewning Middle School.

Both Briggs and the boy say there was no sexual contact.

Briggs said she was concerned the boy was being abused and simply offered him a safe place to stay.
