RALEIGH — The Triangle Reading Service is close to losing its funding thanks to the Wake County budget.

TRS provides a valuable service to the blind. Volunteers read the news, books and magazines to more than 2,000 listeners.

This year, TRS asked Wake County for $23,000. The county delivered a blow instead. This year, the service will get no funding.

Many people are afraid they could lose a service they rely on.

"To me, it's the difference between knowing what's going on and not knowing," says listener LaRue Rogers.

The service gets additional funding from the Triangle United Way, and five other counties.

TRS's director worries other counties will follow Wake's lead and pull their funding.
