RALEIGH — A local movie theater showed its last film and popped its final batch of popcorn Wednesday in Raleigh.

Mission Valley Cinemas, on the corner of Avent Ferry Road and Western Boulevard, is packing up and moving out. The 27-year-old theater is the latest to fall victim to the new multiplex theaters springing up.

"I was sad. It's an old local place, and I'm sad to see it go," says moviegoer Chris Gotwalt. "It was convenient for me because I live only one and a half miles from here."

Mission Valley is the third cinema in Wake County to close this year.

None of the staff will lose their jobs. They are being sent over to the Garner Towne Square 10.
