Gang Violence Takes Its Toll On Durham Neighborhood

DURHAM — A Durham neighborhood is mourning the loss of an eighth-grader who wasmurdered over the weekend.

Family and friends say Catrina Carr was aninnocent victim of gang violence. The 15-year-old was shot outside aGrace Street house in eastern Durham Friday night.

She is the second teen to fall victim to gangviolence in the neighborhood in the past two weeks.

"She was just an innocentbystander. They wasn't after her. They were aftersomebody else," says Trudy Webb, Carr's aunt.

Just down the street from where Carr lived, a memorial marks theplace, where 19-year-old Omontay Toomer was murdered. Police say he was agang member.

No arrests have been made in eithercase.
