First Female Chancellor Inaugurated at Meredith College

— Meredith Collegecelebrated a first Saturday as students and staff officially welcomed its seventh chancellor in school history.

Dr. Maureen Hartford is the first female president of the largest private women's college in the southeast.

Hartford's inaugural ceremony took place Saturday morning at Dorton Arena.

The new chancellor, a Charlotte native, has been on the job since July 1999.

Hartford was formerly vice president of student affairs at the University of Michigan.
