Durham Murder Suspect in Custody

Posted Updated

DURHAM — Durham police say they have solved the murder of a local restaurant owner.

Investigators arrested 22-year-old Ibrahim Rashid Bey for the murder of Hamid Elouali. Elouali was shot inside the Philly Steak and Cheese restaurant at the Park West Crossing Shopping Center on Friday.

Police say Bey was already in custody on unrelated charges.

Elouali's family says Bey had worked at the restaurant for three weeks. The family says they did not conduct a thorough background check on Bey.

"Justice will be served, but also it will not bring him back," says Nour Elouali, Hamid's brother.

The family also say Bey stole $300 before he shot Elouali. Bey is charged with first-degree murder, and is being held in the Durham County Jail with no bond.
