Carjacked Couple Escapes From Trunk In Durham

DURHAM — Carjackers in Durham took their victims for a ride Thursday evening.

Police say a couple were working on their car behind the Food Lion on Lakewood Shopping Center when they were approached by three males.

The three males ordered the couple into the trunk of the car at gunpoint and drove around town for approximately 45 minutes.

Police say the male victim was able to open the trunk while the car was moving. The couple jumped out of the moving car on Forest Hills Boulevard.

"Usually in a carjacking, you are going to have people that are going to steal the vehicle from the victim and leave the victim at the scene," says Cpl. Coleman Spivey of the Durham Police Department. "This was unusual in that they took the victims along with them."

Both victims were treated and released from Duke Hospital.

Police are looking for a 1989 beige, four-door Ford Taurus with a North Carolina license tagMSW-7106. Anyone with any information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at919-683-1200.
