CARY — No one was injured when anAmtrak trainderailed in Cary Thursday, but there were quite a few kids inconvenienced by the incident.
Part of the train derailed just before noon, along the 8,000 block of Chapel Hill Road, about a quarter-mile east of the train station.
There were 269 passengers on board the train, and the derailment was quite an experience for dozens of kids taking a trip to the state Capitol, including a girl scout troop from outside Charlotte.
The tracks were cleared for passenger and freight traffic at 4 p.m.
A spokesman says Amtrak hopes to know the cause of the derailment by Friday.
