Mason-Dixon Poll Shows N.C. Governors Race Heating Up

RALEIGH — A newMason-Dixon Pollconducted for WRAL-TV shows the Democratic and Republican race for governor is tightening on both sides.

DemocratMike Easley'slead overDennis Wickernarrowed from 21 percent in February to just 9 percent in April; 27 percent of voters are still undecided.

RepublicansRichard VinrootandLeo Daughtryare neck in neck. Chuck Neely is a distant third with 24 percent of voters still undecided.

The telephone poll was conducted with 633 registered voters April 24 -26, 2000.

The margin of error on the Democratic sample is plus or minus 5 percent, and on the Republican sample it is plus or minus 6 percent.
