Officials said someone found it Friday in Hillsborough in the vicinity of Rex Road and Dimmocks Mill Road.

An animal control officer shot and killed the skunk after it exited a yard where it had fought with two dogs.

The skunk was submitted to the State Rabies Laboratory for testing. It marks the third positive rabies test for Orange County in 2006.

Pet owners are urged to make sure their dogs and cats are current on their rabies vaccinations.
