Investigators: Speed A Factor In Trooper's Fatal Wreck

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE — Aug. 15, 1996 - 5 p.m. EDT

Investigators say speed may have played a role in the Cumberland County accident that killed a state trooper last week.

Trooper Damion Roberts died last Wednesday when his patrol car struck a bridge support on Murchison Road at Fort Bragg.

Investigators say witnesses and efforts to re-construct the crash have led them to believe Roberts was driving more than 100 miles an hour when the accident happened.
