Wake County Population: Beyond The Year 2000

RALEIGH — By the end of the new century's first decade, Wake County will have more people than any other county in the state, surpassing Mecklenburg as the most populous.

According to state planners, by the year 2010, Wake County will have 758,364 residents. Mecklenburg is expected to have 757,736 by then according to projections based on growth since 1980.

From 1990 to 1995, Wake County grew by 20 percent while Mecklenburg grew by only 13 percent.

That trend is expected to continue throughout the 21st century
