Possible Domestic Dispute Leads to Shooting, Stabbing

Posted Updated

BENSON — When police responded to a call from a Benson man who said he was stabbed, they didn't expect to find a second victim of violence.

Otis Amerson, 56, called police to a house on Harnett Street, saying he was stabbed. When police arrived, Amerson told them they'd also find the body of a woman in a house on Woodall Street.

Police say they believe what started as a domestic dispute ended in Amerson's multiple stab wounds and a fatal gunshot wound to the 25-year-old woman's chest. Her identity will not be released until family members are notified.

Amerson is unconscious and listed in serious condition in a hospital.

Neighbors say they are in a state of shock and that they didn't hear any sounds of an argument. This is only the second homicide in Benson this year.

Charges are pending against Amerson
