Nordstromis known for its quality merchandise and superior customer service. The company's online shoe store is touted as the world's biggest.
The site itself is impressive. Nordstrom's "fit advisor" determines what size shoe you wear in general, based on sizes for different styles.
To order, you select your size, the style you want, the price range, and the width.
Buying shoes online -- unless you know exactly what you want -- is very different from shopping in a retail store. Retailers say there is something missing: being fitted for the shoe.
"I mean that's our focus here is fitting the customer's foot. A customer might wear an eight in one style and an eight and a half in another style," says Diane Chinnis.
Nordstrom addresses that problem by sending return shipping labels with the shoes, in case the ones you ordered don't fit.
The company has always had a liberal return policy, and it carries over in their online store.
Nordstrom is scheduled to open a store in Durham's newStreets at Southpointmall in 2001.
