There's already a major roadblock on Raleigh's new Outer Loop that will push back the projected opening date.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation says the Northern Wake Expressway, Interstate 540, will not open on schedule. In fact, the opening could be delayed by as much as five months.
DOT is making the contractors rebuild that section of the Outer Loop after finding cracks in the surface. Faulty construction materials are said to be to blame.
The first section of I-540 connecting RDU Airport and Highway 70 is now set for December
