RALEIGH — June 12, 1996 - 5 p.m. EDT

What, besides a lot of snow, does Madison, Wisconsin have that Raleigh and Durham don't? Moneymagazine's "Number One Place to Live" ranking, that's what.

After finishing first two years ago, Raleigh-Durham is now 24th on the list of best places to live.

At least that's better than any other North Carolina area. Charlotte was 84th, the Triad 90th, Goldsboro 101st, Rocky Mount 191st and Fayetteville came in at number 211.

The magazine takes into consideration such factors as cost-of-living, quality of education, culture and crime. Moneysays that, in spite of all its ice and snow, the best place to live in 1996 is Madison, Wisconsin
