Hoke County Death Continues to Stump Police, Family

OAKCREST — June 10, 1996 - 6:03 p.m. EDT

Investigators and members of Jerome Poole's family say they are as yet unable to figure out how and why Poole was killed Saturday night.

Poole, 31, was found dead behind the wheel of his black BMW after it crashed into a house in the Oakcrest community. He had sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest.

Poole's sister, Tracie Poole (pictured, left), wonders why her brother, a respected hairstylist, was killed.

She adds that the family doesn't know of anyone who might have had a motive to kill her brother.

Police believe Poole was shot while parked off Wayside road, then shot again when he tried to get away. They say they think he was already dead when his car slammed into a house.

Making this case particularly tragic, Poole's father, Thomas Poole (pictured, right), was murdered in Illinois almost exactly a year ago. That case also remains unsolved, and Tracie Poole says the family hopes police will soon be able to solve at least one of the family deaths.

Jerome Poole was found with all of his money and jewelry still on him. Wayne Gardner(pictured, left) of the sheriff's department says they're going to need help with this investigation.

Anyone with any information that might help with their investigation can call the Hoke County Sheriff's Department at (910) 875-5111.
