Police Chase Leaves Accidents in its Wake

RALEIGH — June 6, 1996 - 11:45 a.m. EDT

Some police officers had a very busy night in Raleigh Wednesday night. Authorities say a man in a stolen car led them on a chase through some of the city's busiest streets, causing accidents along the way.

Raleigh Police Lt. R.E. Deaton (pictured, left) says a lot of action resulted from what started as a routine traffic stop for suspect Michael Eugene Jordan.

Jordan, 22, faces 13 charges, including felony hit-and-run and, according to police, he is responsible for sending five people to the hospital, including one off-duty police officer.

That was the officer who first noticed Jordan's careless driving. He initiated pursuit in his personal vehicle.
