<b>RALEIGH</b> — May 31, 1996 - 5 p.m. EDT

A Raleigh taxi-driver  happened onto a dangerous fare early Friday morning.

Police say the driver stopped for two passengers on Bart Street, near  New Bern Avenue at about 5 a.m.

The driver says his passengers demanded money, then shot him. He was then  able to drive himself to the hospital.

Police have not identified the driver, but say his injuries were not  life-threatening
