FAYETTEVILLE — May 6, 1996 - 12:28 p.m. EDT

The Fayetteville Police Department is looking for some unusual donations. They want horses to put under their mounted officers.

The city's mounted patrol has nowhas only one horse and wants to put its full force back on the streets, so Sunday was dubbed the first "Horse Play in May Day". A parade was held to raise money and awareness for the patrol.

The mounted patrol boasts more than 27 felony arrests in Fayetteville and its officers have written more citations than any other departmental unit.

Carol Harvey has donated horses to the force and says it works well for many reasons.

Since 1989, the mounted force has retired five of its six horses and wants to replace them. They need horses 8 to 12-years-old.

If you have a horse to donate, or know someone who does, contact the police department at (910) 433-1836.
