DURHAM — May 1, 1996, 3:28 p.m.EDT
A student at Southern High School collapsed in class this morning, and died a short time later.
The student's identity has not been released, but school officials describe her as a special needs student who was due to graduate next month.
An ambulance was summoned when she reportedly stopped breathing. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The student was in a "self-contained" class, with a teacher and teacher's assistant, according to school officials.
The teen had been confined to a wheelchair following a 1990 car accident
