Fire caused extensive damage Thursday night to a Raleigh business.

Thick black smoke hovered over Paragon Technologies on Westgate Road, just off U.S. 70 near Umstead State Park.

Firefighters say the fire appears to have started in some pallets piled up inside the building. They burned for several hours, causing extensive damage.

No one was working inside the building at the time. A few firefighters were burned, but none seriously. A damage estimate was not available.

Paragon Technologies is a metal fabrication business
