Law officers continue their search for three inmates who escaped from Pender County jail this weekend. They are armed and considered dangerous.

Police say the escapees staged a fight so they would be moved to a different cell, and were able to overpower a guard while they were being shifted. The trio then slipped out a back window of the jail.

The inmates reportedly stole a car a few blocks from the jail and drove it to a friend's house. Just as police arrived, they slipped out through a window.

Officers tracked the men into a wooded area but weren't able to capture them.

The escapees have been identified as Matthew McIntyre, James Gorby and Kenyon Lofton. McIntyre and Lofton were in jail for probation violations and Gorby was in jail accused of first-degree kidnaping
