UNC's Ford Sentenced to Probation for Durham DWI

Posted Updated

DURHAM — UNC assistant basketball coach Phil Ford pleaded guilty to DWI in a Durham courtroom Thursday and placed on probation for a year.

A judge sentenced Ford to an eight-day suspended jail sentence and 12 months supervised probation. Ford was also fined $500 for the September 27 arrest.

As part of his probation, Ford cannot have alcohol in his possession or in his car for five years. He must also attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

"He's very remorseful for what he did, and he's ready to get his life back on track, and put this behind him," says Ford's attorney James Williams.

Ford has a prior DWI conviction but has completed a rehabilitation program.
