DURHAM — Mike Krzyzewski says he hasn't felt this good in years. The Duke coach recently christened the university's brand new K-lab, an outfit devoted to sports medicine and injury research. In fact, Coach K. himself has been the beneficiary of the lab that bears his name.
"In the last two months, I've been here at least twice a week doing stuff for my hip and going through some weight training and stretching and rehabilitation for back and hip," Krzyzewski explained. "So I'm not saying I'm in game shape, but I'm in better shape than I was in during the year."
That is allowing him to take on more and more activities, such as devoting time to the K-lab, taking on a the new title of Associate Athletic Director, and singing. Singing? That's right. Coach K. will sing "take me out to the ball game" August 3rd at Wrigley Field.
"I am nervous about it because my buddies will be there, my family, they will be there," Coach K. admits. "I know I don't do that very well. So, I'm hoping it will be a longer game, and the people have enjoyed a lot of beer."
It's a busy summer for Coach K, but certainly one he's up for.
