Crews Ready New Arena for Hurricanes Home Opener

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — The much anticipated opening of Raleigh's Entertainment and Sports Arena is exactly one week away. Crews are working around the clock to make the deadline.

The exterior has looked the same for a while, but the interior has come alive.

Project director David Rotman says everything is a go for next week's opening.

"Absolutely, unquestionably. We're a couple of baby steps away from putting it to bed. We're absolutely ready to roll," says Rotman.

There have been some bumps in the road, most recently the wrong sprinkler heads were installed, but Rotman says with a project this size, something always comes up.

"The ones at the end are sometimes a little more interesting than the ones at the beginning, but there are no problems that are out there that we know of that are unsolvable and that aren't being resolved as we speak," he says.

Rotman says all the inspections should be completed early next week, and that is when the arena will get its certificate of occupancy. Reporter: Lynda Loveland
