FAYETTEVILLE — With a nod from his doctors, Fayetteville Mayor J.L. Dawkins says he will run for office again.

Dawkins has been undergoing chemotherapy for bone cancer for several months. The mayor says his health is improving and he plans to file his election paperwork in the next few weeks.

"It's in my heart. How I enjoy life, of course, is with my family and friends, but also serving the people," Dawkins says.

The mayor says if he is elected to a seventh term, he will continue his efforts to revitalize downtown. Dawkins has been the city leader for 12 years.
