Thirty-year-old Thomas Anthony Sanders of Raleigh has been charged with murder. Ironically, he initially had been thought to be a Good Samaritan, because he and another man drove the victim to WakeMed for treatment.
The victim was Marcus Cadale Braidy, 22, of Star Street in Raleigh.
Braidy had been shot twice.
Police say Sanders, Braidy and Raymond Smith, 39, also of Raleigh, had been riding around in a car together when the shooting occurred inside the vehicle.
Officials said Smith told hospital authorities that Braidy was a stranger who had come up to the car seeking help for a gunshot wound.
Smith has been charged with obstructing an investigation by providing police with a false account.
Smith and Sanders were charged early Sunday. Police have not said whether Braidy was armed, the reason for the shooting or precisely where it occurred.
