CHAPEL HILL (AP) — Brendan Haywood had 24 points and hit the game-winning layup with three-point-three seconds to play as 13th-ranked North Carolina beat fourth-ranked Wake Forest 70-to-69 Saturday night.
Haywood finished with ten rebounds as the Tar Heels handed the Demon Deacons their first loss of the season.
Wake Forest shot a season-low 37 percent and fell to one-and-15 in the Smith Center.
Neither team led by more than five points in a close second half. It was tied three times and there were five lead changes over the final eight minutes as the Tar Heels won their eighth consecutive game.
