Prominent Harnett County Man Killed in Accident

LILLINGTON — Charges are pending against a driver in a deadly accident that killed a prominent Harnett County man.
William Harrington, 84, died when an SUV crossed the centerline and slammed into his car on Highway 217 near the Harnett-Cumberland county line around 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Troopers say charges are pending against the SUV's driver, Chester Jones. Jones is in serious condition at UNC Hospitals. Investigators found a beer can in his car, but have not determined whether the accident was alcohol-related.
Harrington served on several boards in the county.
