RALEIGH — The commute to and from Research Triangle Park is now a whole lot easier for some Wake County residents.
A new two-and-a-half mile section of the I-540 Outer Loop opened to traffic this weekend.
Monday will be the first time rush hour traffic will move through its lanes.
I-540 now stretches from I-40 to Leesville Road.
The entire loop is expected to cost $1.2 billion and is scheduled to be completed by the year 2025.
