FAYETTEVILLE — The heroic actions of two men were not enough to save a Fayetteville man.
The man, whose name has not been released, received third-degree burns over 50 percent of his body when his home went up in flames.
Fire investigators say Ricky Chavis and another man smashed a window to save the victim.
The heat was too intense so the two men doused themselves with a garden hose and went inside to pull the victim out.
The cause of the fire is unknown. The victim later died at UNC Hospitals.
