NEWTON GROVE — Newton Grove has hired a private police force to protect the town.
N.C. Special Police Officerstook over law enforcement responsibilities last week.
The officers do not have a set schedule. They are working on an "as needed" basis, which usually means one to two officers are on duty a day.
The group was hired after all of the city's police officers quit because of a dispute with the police commissioner.
