RALEIGH — A judge has sentenced the parents of a child abused by a Raleigh street minister. Lisa and Kevin Fortner faced felony abuse charges for leaving their little boy in the care of Howard Hunichen.
Monday, a judge sentenced the Fortner's to suspended sentences and three years probation.
Hunichen is in prison for shaking and beating Zachary Fortner, leaving him permanently disabled.
Zachary is permanently brain damaged, and is in an institution receiving care for his injuries.
The Fortners' two other children are in the custody of relatives.
The District Attorney says he could not have made his case against Hunichen if not for the Fortner's testimony.
