Jacksonville Man Could Be Charged in Barricade Incident

Posted Updated

JACKSONVILLE (AP) — A Jacksonville man could face charges after barricading himself in his bedroom and then jumping out the window when police fired tear gas into the apartment.

Jacksonville Police Deputy Chief Sammy Phillips says charges are pending a psychiatric evaluation.

The 28-year-old Marine threatened to kill his wife and himself Sunday.

Negotiators tried to talk him out of the apartment for about three hours before firing a tear gas canister inside.

Police say he jumped out a second-story window, but was not injured.

The man told police he was armed, but no weapons were found in the apartment.
