Local Merchants Seeing Green Over Tar Heel Blue

Posted Updated

CHAPEL HILL — The Carolina Tar Heels are headed to Indianapolis for the Final Four. Many fans will watch the big game in the Triangle, and that means big business for area retailers.

The Tar Heel's big win is being translated into big bucks in blue heaven. Stores cannot sell UNC merchandise fast enough.

"Any store on this block will tell you the same story," says Chapel Hill store owner Shelton Henderson. "When they win, we win."

The big quest on Franklin Street is the elusive Final Four T-shirt. Large quantities of merchandise arrived Monday afternoon. Hubert Dowdy drove from Roanoke, Va. just to make sure he got a shirt.

As Saturday nears, the focus will shift from what fans wear to where they will be watching the big game.

Many restaurant and bars which hosted large crowds this past weekend expect even more business next weekend.

Many fans are spending big to cheer their team on in Indianapolis. Tickets went on sale Monday morning.
