DURHAM — Durham police are investigating the murder of a convenience store clerk Wednesday morning.

Around 1:30 a.m, a police officer drove by the Circle K store at the intersection ofFayetteville Street and Woodcroft Parkway. At that time, everything appeared fine. By 4 a.m., the store was a murder scene.

Newspaper couriers from the News and Observer and the Durham Herald-Sun discovered the body of Malcolm Quinton Garner as they were making their morning deliveries.

Police do not yet know when the victim died.

"What we're asking is if anyone has driven by that particular convenience store between the hours of 1:30 and 4:00, if they would please contact our Criminal Investigations Division," says Lt. Edward Sarvis.

The victim's co-workers were stunned to hear the news that a single gunshot to the head killed their friend.

"I always talked to him. I usually took him home," says co-worker Anthony Vega.

Vega heard the news when he came to relieve the victim.

"I feel like I'm scared. I can't even go to work now," Vega says. "I don't even know if I should keep this job anymore."

WRAL has heard the suspect or suspects may have taken the surveillance video, but police have not confirmed that.

Police believe robbery may have been the motive.
