Fire Damages Durham Apartments

Posted Updated

DURHAM — Fire officials are trying to determine how an apartment fire started Monday night in Durham.

The blaze broke out at the Campus Oaks Apartments on Swift Street near Duke University.

The fire apparently started in one of the units and spread to the attic.

Three apartments are badly damaged, and there is extensive water and smoke damage.

"I was just in my apartment on the second floor, and I started to see some sparks come down out of the back window," says resident Adam Bentley. "I looked outside about a minute after it started, and I saw flames coming out of the first floor."

Everyone living in the apartments got out safely. -->
