Satcher to be Tried in Maryland for Dickerson Murder

RALEIGH — A Maryland man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend in Wake County will be tried in Maryland. Stephen Satcher was arrested in January of last year on charges of kidnapping and murdering Jovita Dickerson.

Dickerson was abducted as she left work in Maryland in December 1998. Her body was found in the trunk of her burning car in Zebulon the day after she disappeared.

On Wednesday, federal prosecutors in Maryland charged Satcher with a violation of interstate stalking.

If he Is found guilty, Satcher could spend the rest of his life in prison.

The North Carolina murder charge, which could have brought Satcher the death penalty, was dismissed Friday.
