<b>RALEIGH</b> — A chemistry experiment exploded and injured a student lab assistant Tuesday morning onN.C. State'scampus.

The explosion happened around 9:30 a.m. at Withers Hall and  was the result of a small chemical spill involving sulfuric acid and a potassium compound.

The student, Marcie Belisle, suffered minor face and neck burns. She was treated and released from WakeMed.

Tennis great and ESPN analyst Chris Evert announced she has been re-diagnosed with cancer and will not be part of the network's coverage of the 2024 Australian Open. Evert, who won 18 grand slam singles titles and three grand slam doubles titles during her career, had previously announced she had been diagnosed with stage 1 ovarian cancer in January 2022. The former world No. 1 revealed that she had completed her treatment following her sixth and final chemotherapy session in May 2022.
