RALEIGH — Thanks to a WRAL OnLine user, a mysterious murder case is finally wrapped up.

Samuel Covington pleaded guilty to murdering a homeless man in 1997. Monday, he was sentenced to life in prison.

Raleigh police say Covington called 911 reporting the murder.

For two years, there were no leads until a WRAL viewer listened to the emergency call on WRAL OnLine and recognized the voice.

Once police got the tip of who to look for, Covington was charged with murder.

He was also linked to shooting two horses at the N.C. State College of Veterinary Medicine and threatening former Raleigh Mayor Tom Fetzer. -->
