Accused Killers Set to Begin Trial Monday

Posted Updated

ENFIELD — Two men accused of killing an Enfield police officer will go before a judge Monday.

Douglas Elijah Travis, 23, of Roanoke Rapids, and Lawrence Broady, 18, of Pleasant Hill, are charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Sgt. Tonya Gillikin.

Gillikin and another officer pulled over the two men in March 1999. While the officers were trying to handcuff the two, police say Travis shot Gillikin in the head.
