After Two-Year Delay, Jury Selection Set to Begin in Trial of Abner Nicholson

Posted Updated

SHARPSBURG — The man accused of killing his wife and Sharpsburg's police chief is about to face a jury.

Abner Nicholson has been waiting in the Wilson County jail for more than two years. He is charged with shooting Chief Wayne Hathaway, who was answering a domestic violence call from Nicholson's wife Gloria.

Hathaway's family hopes the trial will bring closure.

"A lot of mixed feelings when this happened," says Monica Worsham, Hathaway's sister. "One minute you're glad. Like right now I'm glad, but I'm also scared, and that's the way its been when it got postponed before."

Jury selection will begin Tuesday in Craven County. Testimony could begin next week in Wilson.
