DURHAM — Expect major road improvements in Durham along I-85 and US 70, as well as major road blocks and delays.

On Monday, the Department of Transportation will begin widening lanes on both I-85 and US 70. Crews will also build a new bridge connecting the two.

Camden Avenue will be closed for about eight months. The Midland Terrace Bridge will be closed for about a year.

Motorists who use I-85 and US 70 to get to Raleigh should use the Durham Freeway as an alternate route.

Also, starting Monday, the DOT will begin expanding New Hope Road to five lanes.

Most of the construction will take place during light traffic times, which means all lanes will be open during rush hour -- Monday through Friday from 6-9 a.m. and 4-8 p.m. All lanes will be open during the holidays as well.
