ECU Classes Resume Wednesday

Posted Updated

GREENVILLE — One East Carolina University student died in the flooding brought on by Hurricane Floyd, and now many others are returning to find their dorms and apartments ruined.

The Tar River is not raging wildly, as it was a week or so ago. Nonetheless, many dorms and apartments are still under water.

"You don't expect this," one student said. "Hurricanes, wind, rain, once that's over, you're fine. Not, three days later your apartment is under water."

FEMA officials are trying to find temporary housing for the students.

They are considering pulling campers onto the site of an old warehouse owned by ECU, but the site has not been approved yet.

Students go back to school Wednesday.
