Cobras Knock Off Wranglers 49-29

FAYETTEVILLE — Lance Funderburk threw two touchdown passes and rookie Silas Demary played tough defense as the Carolina Cobras opened the preseason with a 42-29 win over the Oklahoma Wranglers at the Crown Coliseum in front of 4,308 Monday night.

The Cobras got enough offense from Funderburk (9 of 20 passing for 129 yards) and Brandon Streeter (4 of 17 for 66) to keep the Wranglers from winning their first preseason game in the franchise?s history. Carolina improved to 1-0 in preseason, while Oklahoma fell to 0-1.

Oklahoma quarterback Joe Phears completed 10 of 21 passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns with an interception for the Wranglers.

Kotto Cotton led the Cobras with 3 catches for 56 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown grab from rookie Brandon Streeter on his first AFL pass. Greg Harris added 3 catches for 44 yards and rookie Carl Bond snagged a pair of passes for 30 yards. Lamont Cooper hauled in 5 passes for 51 yards in the loss.

Demary, a First Team All-af2 selection with the Norfolk Nighthawks last season, shined in his first Arena Football game. He posted three sacks, including a safety, and two pass break-ups.

The Cobras host the San Jose SaberCats in their final preseason game on Thursday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Raleigh, N.C. Carolina opens the regular season on the road with a match-up against the New Jersey Gladiators on Saturday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. Nate Boudreaux
