— Cumberland County school leaders want children to be better prepared for the future. They have approved a new pre-kindergarten center for at-risk children.

Pre-kindergarten programs are designed to give children the tools they need to succeed, and it is free for parents.

W.T. Brown Elementary will host the new center, where a maximum of 80 children will be accepted. Jeannette Council will coordinate the center.

"If we concentrate our efforts in a small area of the county, we think we can see a larger impact," she said.
