Man Shot Outside White House Will Come to N.C. for Mental Exam

Posted Updated

BUTNER — The man shot near the White House last month is headed to North Carolina.

Robert Pickett will go to Butner's Federal Correction Hospital for a court-ordered competency evaluation. A Secret Service agent shot Pickett in the leg when he allegedly flashed a gun outside the White House's south fence last month.

Doctors need to figure out whether Pickett is competent to stand trial. His lawyers are appealing the ruling.
