Wilson Teen Leads Authorities on High Speed Chase

NASH COUNTY — A 19-year-old is in custody after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase through several counties Tuesday morning.

Authorities arrested Richard Thompson of Wilson after stopping the stolen SUV he was driving with stop sticks in Nash County.

Knightdale police began chasing the 2001 Ford Explorer along Highway 64.

Wake County sheriff's deputies joined in the chase, which reached speeds of 80 miles per hour.

The SUV ran over stop strips and ran off an embankment in Nash County, nearly hitting a police officer. It did hit a Nashville woman's SUV.

Thompson faces several charges, including assault and possession of a stolen vehicle. He being is held in the Nash County jail.
