Cumberland County Hosts Smart Start Day

Posted February 11, 2001 6:00 a.m. EST

— The Cumberland County Partnership for Children held its annual Smart Start Day on Monday. The kids may think it is all fun and games, but organizers say there is a lesson in it for parents.

Smart Start Day offers information on important services available in the county. Parents also get a chance to see what kind of developmentally appropriate activities they can do with their kids at home.

"Children learn through play, that's how they learn. That's how they develop social skills, curiosity, and that's how they get excited about learning," says Eva Hansen ofN.C. Smart Start.

Due to the popularity of the event, Smart Start Day had to be moved to a bigger location, the Agri Expo Center. Another session will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. until noon.
